Cheerios is pretty healthy, but the Old Fashioned Oats are healthier, although I don't like them. I was surprised to hear about the artificial color in the cheese sauce, and it has a lot of salt, but the pasta is pretty healthy. The beans had nothing surprising in them, and they are healthy. We looked up beans on the USDA website and it said that they are part of the meat protein group with fish, eggs, and nuts. Even though they are healthy, I don't like them.

Some of the things we like to eat during the week that we need to buy are Cheerios, eggs, yogurt, water, applesauce, and green pepper.
I helped to plan an apple dish using a recipe from the colonial times called apple tansey. It has sliced apples cooked in butter, eggs, cream, water, nutmeg, and sugar with a topping of lemon and sugar. This recipe is mostly from the fruit section of the food pyramid, with some dairy and a little bit of sugar and fat that will help it taste good.

Dancercize Try-It
1. Move to the Beat - Practiced these moves in "March to Fitness" exercise video for 40 minutes instead of 10-15 minutes. (Fri. 1/1/10)

3. My Own Dance - A Jazz Dance that has "kick ball change" in it and can be danced to a fast song on the "Kids Only" channel. (Fri. 1/1/10) Here it is:
Jazz box, jump 3, run, hands up/down, left leg/right grapevine both sides, middle split, jump 3, step touch, fist out-in 6, run original feet spaced out, arms right first then left, both sides passe down, pirouette down, jump, jazz box-kick ball change 4, pose; arms folded back to back.
It was very hard to teach how to do my dance, and for me too because I had to keep looking at the page where the directions were and it was so slow - it took a long time to teach.

6. A Dance Story - This ballet is called "Eins math un gut" - that means "The math is good" because I got my math done! The story is about a girl who is doing her math, and she hates it, but then she gets it done and does a little happy dance! The happy dance is a number of pirouettes, arabesques, and leaps. She is smiling and moving her arms also. (Tues. 1/5/10)

Sounds of Music Try-It
1. Make Your Own - I made two maracas which are shakers and decorated them. (Mon. 12/21/09)
2. Single String Swing - How it gets its pitch has to do with your finger and the vibration of the string. The higher you pluck, the higher the sound. The lower you pluck, the lower the sound. How it works is all about vibration. If you pluck higher on a shorter string, the vibration has a shorter distance to travel, and that way it has a higher sound. (Wed. 12/23/09)
3. Sliding Air - This is my second favorite of all instruments we're going to do. The sound is lower when you lift the straw out of the water because the tube is getting longer. The sound is higher when you lower the straw into the water because the tube is shorter. These sounds are higher and lower because just as with the Single String Swing, when you lift the straw out it has longer tube to vibrate and it makes a low sound, and when the straw is pushed in it is shorter and makes a higher sound. 4. Shoebox Guitar - This instrument was the most complicated instrument that I ever had to make. Once I got it done, I loved it!! (Thurs. 12/24/09)
5. Melody Mobiles - It was the second easiest to make of all instruments we made. I like how it turned out. (Thurs. 12/24/09)
6. Live Music - Music & Motion Program (Sat. 1/9/10)

This was probably the most social of all activities in this try-it. I got to meet some new girls from another troop and learn some pretty cool stuff about automata. The girls were really nice. The demonstration of one of the music boxes was REALLY LOUD! I really enjoyed the museum visit.
